FAQs

Acne FAQ’s

Acne is caused when pores become clogged and then infected with the p. acne bacteria. It is not always caused by poor diet or hygiene, but a change in each may help yield better results. The laser light heats of the affected area to effectively kill the p. acne bacteria while also helping to shrink the sebaceous glands, which will cause them to produce less oil, limit future outbreaks and reduce pore size. Also, some patient’s condition may become worse before it gets better. This should subside as the treatments progress. There is no cure for acne, only maintenance, so the patient should be aware that they may need more treatments in the future.

How many treatment sessions are required?

This can vary depending on skin and severity of the condition, but we generally start with 4 to 6 sessions to achieve a good result. After that, the patient may need maintenance every few months depending on their skin condition.

When can I expect to see an improvement in my condition?

Improvement may be seen anywhere from 2-8 weeks depending on the severity
of the condition and the skin’s reaction to the therapy. Some patient’s condition
may worsen before it gets better. This happens because the skin is purging out
bacteria, which is a good thing. It is important to realize that there is no cure for
acne, only maintenance, so further treatment may be required in the future.

Can it be used on dark skin?

The Aerolase Neo Elite is the safest laser in the industry for darker skin types or
tanned skin. This is because the MicroPulse-1064 technology essentially
eliminates treatment pain while minimizing the chances of hyper and/ or hypopigmentation.

Can it be used on acne scars?

Yes, during the normal course of acne treatment the laser light will also help to lessen any cratering or pock marks caused by acne. This is enabled by the laser light superheating the water within the skin’s dermis and helping rebuild and regrow both collagen and elastin, effectively helping smooth out any imperfections left behind from acne.

Hair Removal FAQ’s

Does the patient need to shave before the procedure?

You should shave 24 hours before your laser hair removal appointment, and ensure you do not wax or pluck 4-6 weeks before your session. Leaving too much growth inhibits the laser from seeing the follicle and can potentially cause too much heat to be trapped in the skin.

How many treatment sessions are required?

This can vary depending on skin and severity of the condition, but generally 9 – 12 sessions are required to achieve optimal hair reduction. After that, the patient may need maintenance as needed.

How does this treatment work on PFB (ingrown hairs)?

The laser energy is absorbed by pigment in actively growing hair, damaging the hair follicle and thus, hair regrowth is impeded, reducing and eliminating the bumps caused by ingrown hairs.

Do the hairs fall out? If so, when?

If the laser lens and fluence setting are chosen correctly, many hairs will singe upon contact with the laser beam and will disappear. Some hairs which are in a dormant growth phase will not respond at all, although some of them will be damaged even if they did not singe. Those which are damaged may fall out within a few days after treatment or even immediately if the treatment site is rubbed.

Rosacea FAQ’s

Some patients or lesions may not respond as well as others. Rosacea lesions tend to subside after the first or subsequent treatments. Regardless of the treatment response, recurrence is common and can be caused by a number of lifestyle factors. It is important to understand that rosacea is a chronic condition that can only be controlled rather than cured.

What causes rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic disorder that is characterized by facial flushing and with time the gradual development of persistent facial redness and spider-like blood vessels. It is often punctuated by episodes of inflammatory papules (bumps), pustules (pimples), and swelling. Management for many people often includes avoidance of popular foods and alcohol as well as cosmetic camouflage, which can be expensive and time-consuming.

How many treatment sessions are required?

Individual results will vary, but can depend on the body surface that is affected. While some patients may see relief in just one treatment, other patients may need a number of treatments to achieve their desired result.

How does laser therapy work for rosacea?

The laser light destroys visible blood vessels, reduces extensive redness and inflammation in the skin. The LightPod Neo laser emits pulses of light that target tiny blood vessels just under the skin. Heat from the laser’s energy builds in the vessels, causing them to disintegrate.

Skin Rejuvenation FAQ’s

The best candidates for skin rejuvenation are patients with skin types I-IV aged 28-55 showing the initial signs of aging such as fine lines, minor wrinkles, sun damage and vessels as well as signs of reduced skin laxity. Other patients may respond to such treatments, but as a segment, the patients aforementioned typically see the best results. Patients should begin to see results immediately after the treatment, particularly skin tightening, and the results will continue to become better over time. After the complete set of treatments (typically once a month for 6 months) patients can expect to see the results continue for the next six months, after which they can start the treatments again.

How many treatment sessions are required?

This can vary depending on skin and severity of the condition, but generally 6 sessions are required to achieve a good result. After that, the patient may need maintenance every few months depending on their skin type.

When can I expect to see an improvement in my condition?

Improvement may be seen anywhere immediately after the treatment to a few weeks after the first treatment. Typically a session every month for 6 months is required. Patients should notice considerable results during the entire course of treatments and for another 6 months after the treatment due to the constant growth of new collagen and elastin. It is important to realize that there is no way to stop the skin’s aging process, so further treatment may be required in the future.

Is it permanent, or will my spots and laxity come back?

While your skin will appear firmer, more full and both red and brown spots will diminish, the skin will continue to age so maintenance treatments may be required in the future. To reduce the signs of aging it is important to have an at home medical skin care protocol followed with a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which will slow any increase of wrinkles and sun damage.

Spider Vein Removal FAQ’s

Some patients will respond better than others and the number of treatments for each vessel may depend on the darkness and size of the vessel as well as the amount of activity the patient undergoes post-treatment. Vessels treated on the legs have a higher tendency to resurface, as the blood pressure tends to be higher. After treatment, a rust-colored staining of adjacent skin tissue, called hemosiderin, may appear from the breakdown of hemoglobin and will subside over the course of 3-4 weeks.

How many treatment sessions are required?

This can vary depending on the size and color of the vessel. Typically angiomas and spider veins will disappear completely after 1-2 treatments although in some cases more treatments may be necessary.

What causes vascular lesions to form?

Vascular lesions can form due to a backup of blood for a number of reasons including aging, sun exposure, pregnancy and hormonal changes as well as certain types of injuries.

Is it permanent, or do the vessels come back?

Many vessels will be gone permanently, but due to the skin aging, continued sun exposure and hormonal changes, new vessels will likely develop over time and more treatments will need to be performed. To slow the aging process and reduce the likeliness of new vessels developing, patients should always apply sunblock when in the sun and avoid prolonged sun exposure. It is good to know, not all lasers are treated equal. Aerolase Neo treats over 30 skin conditions. It is non-invasive, it is safe for all skin types and all skin of color. Aerolase is best known for its powerful skin rejuvenation and anti-inflammatory properties and is non-ablative. You will not experience any downtime. Most clients find this treatment pretty relaxing.
